Things I have been loving this month:

iPhone Lightning Dock – I love having this little charger on my desk. It keeps everything neat and tidy and works as a nice stand for your phone. (Love the rose gold colour!)

iPhone Lightning Dock – $75

Aesop  Hand Balm- I received this as a birthday gift and absolutely love it! This is one of those products that is so nice and feels so luxurious that you are almost too nervous to use it, in case it finishes. I will definitely repurchase this for myself once I am done. It makes your hands feel SO soft, smells delicious and also absorbs quickly.

Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm – $31

Sinful Colors Nail Polish- the shade is supernova. After getting back to reality after the holidays I was still in the festive mood so decided to keep my nails sparkly for a little while longer. This is a great formula that lasts quite long.

Sinful Colors Nail Polish – $4.95

Chanel Chance – I had been searching for a new “signature scent” for so long I just could not find one that I was happy to spend a lot of money on and I would wear every day… And then this came along! I was very lucky to get this beautiful scent as another birthday present. I cannot even describe what this perfume smells like. It changes throughout the day and you only need to spray a small amount. It’s a summery scent that can be worn day or night – without that strong fruity smell.

Chanel Chance Eau de Toilette – $130

L’Oreal Infallible Stay Fresh Foundation – I had read/watched many reviews on this foundation so I decided to try it for myself. It is a great, full coverage foundation that lasts all day. This foundation controls shine and covers up blemishes. It is also sweat proof and definitely has no mask effect.I would recommend applying with a beauty blender. My final touch up after doing all my makeup is applying a little bit on the beauty blender and then dabbing at any imperfections to blend. It provides great coverage. There are many shades to choose from – they do tend to be quite dark (darker than what they look like in the bottle). My skin looked so great on photos as well – which is always a win!

L’Oreal Infallible Foundation – $31.95

Volume With Velcro Rollers

Volume With Velcro Rollers

I have been on this magical quest for as long as I can remember to create volume in my long, flat, super straight hair. I know that is asking for a lot, as “long hair” and “volume” usually don’t go together. But for some reason, hair sitting flat against my head just does NOT suit me.

One thing I found seems to work are these cheap magical things called Velcro Rollers. My mom let me use hers when I was playing dress up as a kid. When I “play dress up” now, I swear by them.

One of the questions Victoria Beckham was asked as her “73 Questions with Victoria Beckham” on the Vogue Youtube channel (which you can find here) was “What’s one thing you cannot live without”? Mrs Beckham’s answer? “My Velcro rollers”. #justsaying

Well let me tell you….

  1. Wash and dry hair as normal.
  2. I only use the rollers on the top section of my head, where I want the volume. Use bigger rollers at the back and smaller rollers near the front.
  3. Take small sections of hair and roll the hair starting from the bottom up until your scalp.
  4. You will find that you don’t need to clip them into place as the velcro keeps the sections down.
  5. Leave the rollers in for about 15 minutes. Now is a good time to do your makeup or finish getting ready.
  6. Spray some hair spray over the rollers. I like to use the Schwarzkopf Push Up Volume Hair Spray.
  7. Slowly unravel the hair from the rollers.
  8. Style as usual.

Veet Saves The Day

Veet Saves The Day

This is just one of those products that has to be shared. Without being too dramatic, I have to say that it changed my life in a tiny way….

I have always struggled with dark, “quick growing” underarm hair that was just too stubborn for anything. It made me self conscious even though I shaved every morning and tried to not lift my arms up too much – for them to be exposed. The problem wasn’t so much the hair but more the dark patch that was  in my arm pit. Unfortunately because I have fairly pale skin (I mean who tans in their armpit anyway?) there just seemed to always be this dark patch where the hair usually was.  Before trying laser hair remover (which is quite costly), I decided to try this Veet hair removal business, which was recommended to me by a dermatologist.

I tried the in shower one because it is a lot more convenient and quick. From the first use I already started to see a difference in the colouring of the skin under my arms. I was sold! I have been using it for a year now and am so much happier and more confident. It gets rid of the hair and that dark patch that I always hated.

A few tips that I can give:

  • Always do a patch test on a small area of skin, a day before.
  • Do NOT leave it on for too long, it will burn your skin.
  • Ensure you wash all the product off after the recommended time.
  • Do not scrape the product off too roughly with the little sponge provided.
  • Use before bed, as I would not recommend using deodorant afterwards.
Bondi Sands Liquid Gold Self Tan

Bondi Sands Liquid Gold Self Tan

Such an event was made out of this tanning episode. I was so excited about this product because I had read so many reviews and watched so SO many “how to’s”, “what not to do’s” and tips and tricks that I felt so ready for it.

Before buying the liquid gold, I was dead set on buying the mousse. The results looked amazing on so many other girls I just figured nothing could go wrong. However, seeing a few too many “streaks and orange feet” out on the road, I decided to go the more cautious route – which is the tanning oil. This oil is different in that you don’t have to wait for it to dry/develop, you don’t have to wash it off after a few hours and, best of all, you don’t have to scrub it off after a few days to apply it again.  I decided to buy the Bondi Sands branded tanning mitt as well – I thought that if I bought the applying tool that came recommended then I wouldn’t have any problems.

I chose a morning where I wouldn’t be rushed, lined everything up, and did the following steps (as I said, I read a LOT of reviews before this):

  1. Exfoliating loofah/sponge/glove
  2. Razor
  3. Shower gel and shaving cream (optional)
  4. Bondi Sands Liquid Gold Self Tanning oil
  5. Self tanning mitt

STEP 1:  Do a patch test a day before. I know this is the irritating part of it all and delays everything, but it’s worth it. Bondi Sands is known to be sensitive skin friendly, but I decided to do a patch test on my stomach just to make sure.

STEP 2: Take a nice warm shower/bath so that you can exfoliate your skin properly. I used the exfoliating glove (as you can see in the picture). It is important to get rid of all dead skin, to ensure the product can be applied smoothly.

STEP 3: Shave your legs. This helps the tan go on smoother. Note not shaving helps your tan last longer. So it helps to shave just before applying.

STEP 4: Apply a few sprays (starting on your legs) and start buffing with the tanning mitt. The key here is to rub in as much as you can. You don’t see the colour immediately so it makes it a bit more difficult blend in. But the key here is to keep buffing. Spray a bit and buff, spray a bit and buff.

The results? I am very happy with the no streak, no orange part of it. The colour was a great, natural tone. However, I did not see any results after doing all these steps once. I figured it was because I did not apply enough on the first time. I was so disappointed because according to all the homework I did, I thought I would see the results immediately.  I think I was a bit nervous the first time around because I was very cautious with the amount of product I used. I waited a day and then did the whole thing again. I could then eventually see a bit more tan and more colour on my skin.

TIP 1: Buy a dark coloured exfoliating glove – apply shower gel to the glove

TIP 2: Make sure you scrub your elbows, knees, feet and all other areas that usually have drier skin

TIP 3: exfoliate “upwards” (from your feet upwards) when scrubbing your legs. This ensures that you expose the hairs – which will make the shaving part smoother.

TIP 4: I did not apply moisturiser before to any of the “drier” areas (elbows, hands, feet). My tan came out even and there were no streaks.

TIP 5: Do not be shy with the amount of product you apply! If you think you should spray to sprays on on spot, spray three.

TIP 6: Start at the bottom and work your way up. I like to start on my legs, that way you won’t mess up the parts you have already blended.

TIP 7: Even though the scent is “cocunutty” – it does have that slight (less than other tanners) self tan smell. I did smell it now and then on my skin throughout the day.

TIP 8: You can top up your tan anytime. As I mentioned above, I felt that my tan was not dark enough so I re-did it and I am happier with the colour now.

So even though I was disappointed with the lack of colour my first try – I am very happy with the results the second and third time around. The colour is very natural and streak free. : )

Eye Have Found It

Eye Have Found It

I have struggled for a very long time with under eye bags, dark circles and all those lovely things around the eye area that make us look tired and unhealthy. Since I started working a bit further away from home, I have had to start waking up a lot earlier than before. Together with training, this just means that I get very little sleep. So I can’t blame my under eye skin for not cooperating.

I have looked into all the suggested remedies:

  1. Getting more sleep (working on that)
  2. Drinking plenty of water (already done)
  3. Staying away from alcohol (done)
  4. Exercise (definitely done)

And so on… I was up to the point of drastic measures. I had even thought of putting cucumbers on and around my eyes for a good week. So I decided to try a eye cream… Silly me thought buying an expensive, high end product would solve ALL my issues. This was not the good ending I was hoping for. Just because it cost a lot of money, did NOT mean that it fixed my problem.

I unfortunately have EXTREMELY sensitive skin. Not like the averageperson. My skin seems to hate everything that it touches. So I ended up with very red, broken and damaged (not to mention painful) patches underneath my eyes… Lovely. That was the moment I gave up on eye creams and just started working on my makeup skills to really just cover up the dark circles.

I was still unhappy because whenever I didn’t do the whole routine of cover up I looked like a walking zombie… Not very attractive. A good few months had passed. So I had read many reviews on eye creams. I couldn’t really find anyone who had experienced the same problem as me. However, I did find very mixed reviews on the Vitamin E eye cream by The Body Shop. I decided to take the risk and try again..

_DSC6434.jpgI love it! I have accepted that I will never completely get rid of those lovely “luxurious” handbags and dark circles underneath my eyes, but it has made things so much better. It smooths the skin, provides a softness, reduces the puffiness and just makes my sensitive under eye skin feel so moisturised. You can find it at most Body Shops or on their online store: VitaminE Eye Cream

I use it in the morning and at night before bed as part of my moisturising routine. It’s so affordable and I would definitely recommend it.
